Area 51

Area 51 is one of the most popular weightlifting gyms in Southampton. Everything you need for bodybuilding is here, whether you’re a fledgling beginner or experienced lifter. The gym is owned and run by competitive bodybuilder Wayne Niemiec. A warm welcome is extended to anyone interested in building muscle and raw strength. At just £4.95 for a single session, it’s also a great value gym. A wide range of exercise equipment is available including racks, benches, Olympic bars, tons of plates, dumbbells up to 70kg and plenty of machines. There is a great range of plate-loaded equipment such as Smith Machine, High Lateral Pull Down, Lying Leg Curl, Low Row, Seated Calf, Conversion Shoulder Press and Squat Rack. Also available are the Nitro Seated Leg Curl, Leg Extension, Bench Press, Incline Machine and Nautilus Seated Row. For serious weightlifters, it’s possibly the best place to work out in Southampton for under £5. There’s also a small cardio area with Life Fitness Treadmills, Seated Recumbent Bikes and Cross Trainers available. Basically, everything you need to help you to get fit and strong. There’s also plenty of other equipment to use so go and check it out. Showers and cold drinks are available for those seeking refreshment after a tough session. The gym opens from 10am to 9pm on weekdays and 11am to 4pm on weekends. How to find us Area 15 has quite a central location on Waterloo Road just 15 minutes walk from the city centre. The nearest local train stations (Freemantle and Shirley) are just 5 minutes walk from the gym, while Southampton Central station is a 10 minute walk. There is also plenty of free parking available at the gym, should you choose to drive. Bus routes 6, 8, 11, 12 and 139 all pass by the gym and Wellington Court is the closest stop.
